How It Works
Program Information
-
Applicants must:
1) Be a Sport Yukon member organization;
2) Be in good standing with Yukon Societies; and,
3) The sport tourism event must take place in the Yukon.
-
1) Applications are submitted using the online form below.
2) Once your application has been submitted, you may be asked for a short meeting within a week to discuss your event in greater detail.
3) Within 7-10 days, your application will be reviewed and evaluated based on a number of criteria, including:
- Organizational capacity
- Financial viability
- Impact on Yukon tourism
- Impact on sport and athlete development
- Long-term benefit to the community
- Advancement of reconciliationand other criteria.
4) Based on the review and evaluation phase, your event will be assigned to a specific support level tier. For applicants within Tier 1 & Tier 2, the decision may include further input from an Adjudication Panel made up from Sport Yukon staff and board, Sport and Recreation Branch, and the Yukon Sport Tourism Advisory Working Group. Tier decisions will be communicated within a day.
-
All Tiers will gain access to valuable resources made to make planning your event much easier.
Depending on the Tier your event is assigned to, Sport Yukon staff may be able to help support planning and delivery. Advising local organizing committees is one of the ways Make It Happen could benefit your event.
-
Tiers will be allocated when evaluating the criteria listed in the Application Process above. There are a few additional elements that will be taken into consideration when allocating a Tier level. An event does not need all of the elements to be allocated within the Tier:
Tier 4:
An annual Yukon event with visitors from within and outside the territory.
Tier 3:
Year 1 of a Tier 4 event
Tier 2:
Sanctioned event with a national governing body or professional league involvement. Includes annual general meetings, national training camps or clinics.
Large reconciliation goals.
Broader tourism strategy with Yukon Government directive.
Tier 1:
Any of the Tier 2 elements, but with International Federation or Major League involvements.
