40th Anniversary Klondike Road Relay An Enormous Success

The 40th Anniversary Klondike Road Relay was an enormous success, with over 1700 racers participating in the iconic Skagway-to-Whitehorse race on September 8-9, 2023.

Over 200 teams from across Canada and the United States descended on Skagway, covering the 175km long and 1000m high course that mirrors the historic White Pass Trail all the way to Whitehorse.

The 40th Anniversary celebrations included a Mayoral sendoff at the start line with both Mayor Andrew Cremata of Skagway and Mayor Laura Cabott of Whitehorse, internationally-renowned race announcer Steve Fleck calling the finish line, and the Party in the Park which featured food trucks, music, activities, and a celebration of the race’s four decades of history.

“We’re thrilled with how this weekend went,” said Liz Butler, the race coordinator for the Klondike Road Relay. “What better way to celebrate our 40th birthday than to have our community continue to show up and support us. This race couldn’t happen without the involvement of hundreds of volunteers and sponsors that dedicate themselves to this piece of Yukon sport history.”
