1981, Arne Anderson (Skiing)

Arne Andersen was inducted to the Hall of Fame for promoting skiing in the Yukon during the 1940s.

Arne's tremendous love of cross country and alpine skiing inspired him to spend endless hours creating a ski hill and ski jump near the Whitehorse General Hospital. Not only did he develop these facilities but he spent many volunteer hours coordinating competitions and instructing young skiers to ski. He represented Canada and Yukon in many competitions in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Whitehorse. In 1948 he won the grand aggregate championship for jumping, cross country skiing and giant slalom in an international meet in Alaska.

Arne was offered a ski instructor's position in Sun Valley, California but he turned down the position to remain in Whitehorse.
