Mel and Willie Olson were inducted to the Hall of Fame as coaches
and athletes of basketball and for their support of softball.
Mel and Willie were very active in basketball. Mel played in the
Whitehorse Men's league from 1962 to 1978. He was also an active
coach in the Whitehorse Women's league (1964 to 1978) and he coached
the 1967 Canada Games team. Willie also playwed basketball in the
Women's league from 1962 to 1980. In 1967 she was chosen to play
on the Canada Games team and in 1970, 1972, and 1974 she played
at the Arctic Winter Games. After Willie retired as a player she
began coaching.
The Olsons also sponsored softball teams for five years.
