Jim Light was inducted in the Hall of Fame for his contributions as a builder in the sport of hockey.

Jim was born in Saskatchewan in 1928 and moved to Whitehorse with his parents where he lived most of his life. Jim was keenly interested in sports and volunteered his spare time to develop minor hockey. He believed that sports were essential to maturing youth and dedicated his time and energy to ensure that kids had opportunities and the encouragement to succeed. Jim spent much of his own money to sponsor minor hockey teams and local players travel to hockey tournaments. All that he asked for in return was hard work and an honest effort.

Jim was the main force behind building, which stood on the ground where Sport Yukon and the Jim Light park now resides. Jim Light died on September 21, 1970.
