Gerry Thick was inducted to the Hall of Fame as a builder for his
long-time contribution and commitment to the Yukon sports scene.
Gerry lived in the Yukon for over 30 years and has been
actively involved in the community and devoted to sports
activities since day one. Until recent years he was an active
athlete, primarily in hockey and softball. Gerry also coached,
managed and organized sports teams and sporting events. Gerry
was player/coach on the first senior men's softball team from the
Yukon to win a silver medal at the Western Canadian Softball
Championships and was honored by being named Yukon Coach of the
Year in 1984. Gerry was also responsible for organizing Yukon's
first senior "AAA" hockey team and worked diligently to fill
the arena in Whitehorse on many cold winter nights.
In 1985 Gerry was appointed Director of the Artic Winter Games
Corporation, became Treasurer in 1986, and was named President of
the Artic Winter Games Committee (formerly the Artic Winter Games
Corporation) in 1995. Gerry was also a hard-working councillor
serving the City of Whitehorse for two terms from 186-1991.
