The Griffiths were inducted to the Hall of Fame for their contributions
to hockey, swimming and the Yukon Sports Federation (now Sport Yukon)
between 1968 and 1974.
Diana was involved in many activities. In 1968, along with four others,
she formed the Whitehorse Swim Club. She acted as Secretary Treasurer
from 1968-69 and served as Vice-President in 1970 and President in
1971-72. She was the first person awarded a lifetime membership
to the Whitehorse Swim Club. After resigning from the board, Diana
remained active in the club until 1974. She also served on the
boards for the Klondettes Gym club, Yukon Sports Federation and
Whitehorse Minor Hockey.
Rick was involved in hockey and swimming. When Rick arrived in
Whitehorse in 1968 he felt that hockey needed more regulation
and standardization and travelled to Grande Prairie to become a
certified referee. He returned to Whitehorse and trained others
to referee minor hockey games. Rick served on the executive
for minor hockey and dedicated many hours as a coach. He coached
the Juvenile Hockey team at the 1971 Canada Winter Games.
Rick was also the head swim coach. He coached twice a day and in
1973 took a team to the Canada Games. He was a driving force in
getting the Lions Swimming Pool covered and in appreciation he
received a Lions Club Award. He also served as the first president
of the Yukon Sports Federation in 1973-74.
