Bill Sim was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his
contribution to the sports of hockey & soccer.
Born in Winnipeg in 1941, Bill joined the Canadian Armed
Forces in 1960 and spent 12 years with Military Police
serving with NATO Forces as well as with United Nations
Peacekeeping Forces. In 1974 Bill received an Honors Diploma
in Correctional Social Work and soon after arrived in
Whitehorse to begin his 21-year career with the Community
Corrections Division of the Department of Justice.
Upon his arrival in the Yukon Bill became heavily involved
in the community sports scene. In 1974 Bill represented
the Yukon at the Canadian National Fastball Championships,
and in 1976 he began playing hockey with the newly formed
Old-timers Hockey League where he stayed involved until
1994 and went on to hold all executive positions. In 1985
Bill centered his interests on minor hockey and soccer
where he was an executive administrator, coach, or referee.
Bill was an untiring volunteer and a community leader.
Bill's latest contribution was as founding president of
the Yukon Claim Jumpers Junior Hockey Club in 1998-99 in
the newly expanded Western States Hockey League. In his
honor, the league now presents the Bill Sim Memorial Trophy
to the team winning the northern division.
