Bill Brewster was inducted to the Hall of Fame for his dedication to promoting
and coaching hockey in Haines Junction.
Bill's passion for hockey began in Alberta playing for the Canmore
Legionnaires. Bill moved to the Yukon in 1950, started coaching
hockey in 1962 and spent the following 16 years improving and
promoting minor hockey in Haines Junction. He served as President
of the Yukon Amateur Hockey Association and Chair of the Haines
Junction Minor Hockey Association. In 1972, he was a key fundraiser
for the Haines Junction hockey rink. He donated a guided hunt from his
outfitting company to raffle and coordinated walk-a-thons and bottle
drives. In gratitude for his tireless efforts the community
named the rink the "Bill Brewster Arena." He also received the
"Mr. Hockey" award for 1970 to 1971 from Whitehorse Minor Hockey
League and for 1962 to 1978 from Haines Junction Minor Hockey
Association.
In 1984 Bill Brewster retired from the Haines Junction hockey
scene to pursue a political career.
